Theme: “Sumlag! Inclusive Sustainability Transitions through Co-creating Resilient Communities, Livelihoods, and Sustainable Destinations”.

IFSS 2026 invites critical, creative, and practice-based contributions that explore how sustainability transitions can be made more inclusive, participatory, and community-centered. As societies confront climate change, inequality, economic uncertainty, displacement, and environmental degradation, the forum seeks to foreground research and action that advance social equity, sustainable livelihoods, ecological integrity, and resilient destinations.

We welcome papers that engage with the forum’s key areas: social inclusion and community resilience; sustainable livelihoods and inclusive economies; environmental stewardship and climate resilience; sustainable tourism and resilient destinations; and innovation, partnerships, and sustainability governance.

Forum Objectives:

  • To examine pathways for participatory governance, social equity, and the integration of indigenous knowledge systems into community resilience frameworks.
  • To assess economic models that promote social entrepreneurship, circular economies, and sustainable agricultural and food systems.
  • To evaluate evidence-based strategies for climate change adaptation, ecosystem restoration, and low-carbon community transitions.
  • To appraise regenerative tourism frameworks that protect cultural heritage and strengthen destination resilience and sustainability.
  • To identify multi-stakeholder partnerships and policy innovations that drive transformative learning and inclusive sustainability governance.
